CHANCE VOUGHT F-8 CRUSADER

Titles: Chance Vought F-8 Crusader No’s 1 to 7

The F8U was designed to a US Navy 1952 specification for a carrier-based supersonic air-superiority fighter and first flew in 1955. Production deliveries began in 1957 which represented a remarkably short development time for what was a considerable increase in performance over it’s predecessors.

The aircrafts most distinctive feature is the variable incidence wing which is raised to reduce fuselage angle-of-attack and improve pilot visibility during carrier landings. The aircraft remained in production for 8 years, the final version being the F-8E(FN) for the French Navy, delivered in 1965. Earlier versions were subsequently re-built with strengthened airframes and blown flaps, and remained in service until the 1980’s.

A considerably re-designed version, enlarged with a much more powerful engine, was developed to compete with the McDonnell F-4. While this aircraft exhibited remarkable performance, it was a pure interceptor while the two-seat F-4 was developed as a fighter-bomber, and as this suited the Navy better at the time, the F8U-3 did not proceed past the prototype stage.

We offer seven titles for the F-8 Crusader, covering most models including the French variant and the experimental F8U-3, along with several confidential supplements, the tactical manual and the weapons loading manual. Each title costs US$9.95. Each file has been scanned from the original flight manuals and retains any colour pages unless otherwise stated.
