The Savoia-Marchetti S.M.79 Sparviero (Sparrowhawk) was the most well-known Italian aircraft of WW2 and first flew in 1934. Between 1937 and 1939 it established a number world speed records, qualifying it as the fastest medium bomber in the world at the time. It was the most numerous Italian bomber of WW2 with nearly 1300 being produced, and it remained in Italian service until 1952.
