The Douglas A-4 was designed by famed Douglas engineer Ed Heinemann and first flew in 1954. 2,960 were eventually manufactured in many versions. In many cases earlier models were re-manufactured into later versions, often for export.

We offer three titles covering several variants of the aircraft. Each title is US$9.95. The files have been scanned from the original manuals and retain any colour pages unless otherwise stated.

Description

Title 1 contains:

  • US Navy Flight Handbook for the A4D-1 and A4D-2, (Later re-designated as the A-4A and A-4B), AN 01-40AVA-1 dated 1-10-56. This manual also includes the AN 01-40AVA-1A confidential supplement, with a total of 255 pages.
  • US Navy NATOPS Flight Manual for the A-4M, NAVAIR 01-40AVM-1 dated 1-11-71, with approx 529 pages. (The A-4M was developed from the A-4E model which uses the J52 engine in place of the the J65.)

Title 2 contains:

  • US Navy Flight Handbook for the A4D-2N, NAVAER 01-40AVB-1 dated 1-10-59, with approx 124 pages. (The A4D-2N differed from the earlier versions in having an autopilot and limited all-weather radar. It later became the A-4C.)
  • US Navy NATOPS Flight Manual for the TA-4F / TA-4J, NAVAIR 01-40AVD-1 dated 1-8-88, revised to 1-9-92, with approx 715 pages. (The two-seat TA-4F version was also developed from the A-4E.)

Title 3 contains:

  • RNZAF Flight Manual for the A-4K (Kahu), NZAP 6213.005-1 dated 09.08.93 with approx 538 pages. (The Kahu modification updated the A-4 avionics/weapons system by installing the APG-66 radar from the F-16 along with a range of other equipment.)
  • US Navy NATOPS Flight Manual for the International Model A-4K, NAVAIR 01-40AVK-1 dated 1-1-70, with approx 102 pages. (Supplemental to the basic A-4E Flight Manual.)
  • US Navy NATOPS Flight Manual for the International Model TA-4K, NAVAIR 01-40AVL-1 dated 1-1-70, with approx 115 pages. (Supplemental to the basic TA-4F Flight Manual.)
