Title: Macchi C.202 Folgore

The Macchi C.202 was a development of the earlier C.200 but using a more powerful in-line liquid cooled engine. The German DB601 was used and this was produced under licence by Alfa Romeo as the RC.1000 for the production aircraft.

The prototype first flew in August 1940 and entered widespread service in 1941. Approximately 1,150 were built and by many accounts the Folgore was considered the best WW2 fighter used by the Italian Air Force.
